A farewell ceremony was held at the Church of Righteous John Rusky for three victims of the city’s shelling.

On February 1 and 2, 2025, funeral services were held at the Church of Righteous John Rusky in Sumy for the victims of the Russian shelling that took place on January 30. Clergy and believers bid farewell to a young mother and a married couple who lost their lives in the attack. This was reported by the press service of the Sumy Eparchy.

On February 1, the rector of the church, Archpriest Yevhen Fedensko, conducted the funeral service for the victims of the shelling. Alongside the families, friends, and loved ones, parishioners of the church and concerned residents of Sumy gathered in prayer. The victims were laid to rest in closed coffins.

"Today is a very heavy and sorrowful day... I ask for holy prayers for the repose of Volodymyr and Nadiya. My condolences to their family and loved ones," said Father Yevhen.

The following day, on February 2, the people of Sumy bade farewell to a young woman, Liubov, whose life was also taken by the shelling. Her young daughter was left orphaned.

The funeral service was led by the rector of St. John's Church. Parishioners and all those who cared gathered in the church to offer their prayers for the deceased and to share in the grief of her family.

"Once again, pain, once again, tears... Today, we conducted the funeral service for another victim of the enemy attack on our city – a young woman, a young mother, whose little daughter has now been orphaned... There are no words... We pray for the repose of the murdered Liubov," said Archpriest Yevhen.

The Sumy Eparchy called on everyone to intensify their prayers for the repose of the souls of the innocent victims.

Earlier, the UOJ reported that churches of the Sumy Eparchy of the UOC were praying for those affected by the airstrike on Sumy.
