The European organization "Union of Orthodox Journalists" has opened a representative office on Mount Athos.

On April 4, 2025, the European organization "Union of Orthodox Journalists" (UOJ) opened a branch on the Holy Mountain of Athos. An Athonite version of the UOJ website has also gone live. In addition, the organization is launching social media pages for the new platform.

Mount Athos consists of 20 large monasteries, but it is also home to monks living in isolated dwellings called kelia. The number of kelliotes is almost two and a half times greater than the number of monks residing in the main monasteries (1,300 out of the total 2,000 monks on Athos).

The UOJ will share the voices of both the monks living in the monasteries and the kelliotes. Readers will be able to learn about the life of the brotherhood of the Holy Mountain and hear their spiritual guidance. At the same time, the UOJ will present their authoritative perspective on developments within the Orthodox world.

The opening of the Athonite branch, following those in Bulgaria, Germany, Greece, Albania, Serbia, and the United States, is part of UOJ’s broader strategy to support canonical Orthodoxy internationally and unite Orthodox believers across different countries.

On November 21, 2024, the UOJ registered a new legal entity in Europe and established branches in Greece, Germany, Albania, Serbia, the United States, and Bulgaria. More branches in other countries are planned.
