Icon of Saint Nectarios of Aegina with a relic brought to Khmelnytskyi

On March 22, 2025, the icon of Saint Nectarios of Aegina, containing a relic of his incorrupt remains, was brought to the St. Nicholas Cathedral of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Khmelnytskyi, according to the press service of the Khmelnytskyi Eparchy.

The icon, which includes a particle of the saint’s incorrupt relics as well as the cassock and vestments in which he was buried, was consecrated on the island of Aegina (Greece) on the day of his commemoration, November 9, 2024.

The sacred object was brought from the men’s monastery in honor of the Iveron Icon of the Mother of God in Odesa, where it is permanently kept.

The Khmelnytskyi Eparchy has published a schedule of the icon’s presence in various cities and villages across the region. The full schedule is available on the Telegram channel of the UOC Eparchy. The relic will remain in the region until April 2.

Saint Nectarios of Aegina (1846–1920) was a remarkable Orthodox ascetic, bishop, and miracle-worker who dedicated his entire life to serving God and people. Born in Seleucia (Asia Minor), he was known from childhood for his piety and desire for spiritual education. His life journey – from teacher to Metropolitan of Pentapolis – was marked by unjust persecution, which he endured with humility and love for others. In his final years, he settled on the island of Aegina, where he founded a convent and became a spiritual guide to many. His sanctity and numerous miracles after death have made him one of the most venerated saints of the Orthodox Church.

As previously reported, a cleric of the Khmelnytskyi Eparchy of the UOC received a letter of gratitude from a military hospital.
