The Church celebrates the third Parent Saturday of Great Lent 2025

On this day, it is important to attend the service and pray for the deceased.
The third Parent Saturday of Great Lent – a special day of remembrance for the deceased – will be celebrated by the Orthodox Church on March 29, 2025.
During the weekdays of Great Lent, the usual Liturgy is not performed unless there is a major feast, and accordingly, the liturgical remembrance of the deceased also occurs less frequently.
To ensure that the deceased are not deprived of our communal prayers for them, the Church has established three special days for their particular remembrance. These are the Saturdays of the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th weeks of Lent.
On these days, one can attend the Liturgy and pray for the deceased. This means not just submitting a note for the repose or ordering a forty-day memorial, but personally participating in the communal prayer.
Despite the name "parent", on these days Christians pray in the church for all deceased relatives and fellow believers (except for suicides, for whom one can only pray at home).
In addition to the Lenten Parent Saturdays, the Orthodox Church has other types of Parent Saturdays that are observed on different days of the church calendar year.
As previously reported by the UOJ, one can be prayed out of hell.
