Gerhard Müller criticized modern political ideologies, calling them limited and dangerous.

German Cardinal of the Roman Catholic Church, Gerhard Müller, in the context of a discussion on the war in Ukraine, reminded that Christ gave His life for people, not for the idea of a ‘great Russia.’

The cardinal urged believers to return to the foundations of the Christian faith, rejecting limited human ideologies that cannot satisfy the deep thirst for truth and salvation.

He criticized modern political ideologies, calling them limited and dangerous: “Communism, like fascism, National Socialism, and all ideologies created solely by human reason, have their limits. Only the Logos, the Divine Reason, can give us a true understanding of the meaning of life and save every person.”

The cardinal highlighted the fundamental difference between the Christian worldview and ideologies seeking to impose a path without God on humanity.

Touching on the conflict between Russia and Ukraine, he criticized political leaders who, in his words, care only about their own power: “When we speak about imperialisms – about Putin, about America, about China – we must remember the great politicians and dictators who are not interested in people's well-being, happiness, or salvation. They only bother about their power and privileges.”

Müller reminded that “Christ is the only One who gave His life for others and did not sacrifice it for Himself or in the name of the glory of a ‘great Russia.’”

Previously, the UOJ reported that Cardinal Gerhard Müller stated that the Roman Catholic Church does not belong to the Pope, and papal infallibility cannot contradict the Holy Scriptures.
