Archbishop Georgios of Cyprus commemorates Dumenko on 25 December
The new head of the Church of Cypriot said he would continue the late Archbishop Chrysostomos's policy towards the Phanar.
Archbishop Georgios of Cyprus said that during the Christmas Liturgy on December 25, he commemorated the head of the OCU, Epifaniy Dumenko, reports the official website of the Cypriot Orthodox Church.
Asked by a journalist whether he would continue the late Archbishop Chrysostomos's policy towards the Phanar, Archbishop Georgios said that the Church of Cypriot "does not follow the Ecumenical Patriarchate simply because it is the Ecumenical Patriarchate".
"But we follow the truth and what the rules of the Ecumenical Councils dictate. So, we are guided by the truth. And since the truth is close to the Ecumenical Patriarchate, why not?"
The journalist went on to say that in the Church of Cyprus, there is a difference of opinion about the "Ukrainian issue". "Is there differentiation now?" he asked Archbishop Georgios.
"There is no differentiation. Already at the Christmas Liturgy, I remembered Metropolitan Epifaniy," replied the head of the Church of Cyprus.
As earlier reported, the new head of the Church of Cyprus called for the rejection of religious processions.
