Vance warns AI being weaponized to rewrite history and censor speech
The U.S. Vice President is urging the global community not to use artificial intelligence for state censorship.
On February 11, 2025, J.D. Vance addressed world leaders at the Artificial Intelligence Summit in Paris, stating that the United States is firmly committed to ensuring that AI remains free from ideological bias, according to Christian Post.
The U.S. Vice President condemned the European Union’s Digital Services Act and its content removal regulations aimed at combating so-called "misnformation." He asserted that the United States feels “very strongly that AI must remain free from ideological bias and that American AI will not be co-opted into a tool for authoritarian censorship.”
J.D. Vance expressed concern over reports that some foreign governments are considering "tightening the screws on U.S. tech companies with international footprints."
Although he didn't mention China or its new AI entity DeepSeek by name, Vance said “foreign hostile adversaries" “have weaponized AI software to rewrite history, surveil users and censor speech.”
He emphasized that the Trump administration will ensure the independence of AI systems developed in the U.S.:
"The Trump administration will ensure that AI systems developed in America are free from ideological bias and never restrict our citizens’ right to free speech," the American Vice President said, adding: “We can trust our people to think, to consume information, to develop their own ideas and to debate with one another in the open marketplace of ideas.”
Earlier, the UOJ reported that Vance criticized Catholic bishops for prioritizing funding over helping immigrants.
