AUCCRO appeals to authorities regarding "Equality March" in Kyiv
Due to the war, other public political events in Ukraine are banned.
The All-Ukrainian Council of Churches and Religious Organizations (AUCCRO) has issued a statement regarding the planned "Equality March 2024" to be held in Kyiv on June 16. The AUCCRO addressed the Ukrainian society and state authorities concerning the event.
The council emphasized that the "march" is planned despite the ban on other public political events in Ukraine due to the full-scale Russian invasion.
"The 'Equality March' is essentially a political and ideological event that is only masquerading as an event in support of human rights," the AUCCRO stated.
In their view, it is part of a left-wing political movement—a continuation of past Marxism. Its goal is to promote and impose a political ideology aimed at destroying the institution of the family and weakening Ukrainian society during wartime.
The statement also mentions that "the organizers of the 'Equality March' recommend that Ukrainian authorities 'increase resources to help LGBT people affected by the war' and pass laws that promote the spread of the sin of depravity and immorality in Ukrainian society."
The AUCCRO pointed out to the authorities that instead, they should focus on promoting the strengthening of the family institution.
"Family, motherhood and fatherhood, natural masculinity and femininity are basic values of the Ukrainian people, a thousand-year heritage of the Ukrainian mental space," the statement reads. "Given this, for the sake of the future of the Ukrainian people and state, we call to stop the spread of propaganda of another totalitarian ideology associated with Marxism, and the holding of shameful events aimed at destroying the basic values of the Ukrainian people!"
As the UOJ reported earlier, the previously announced LGBT festival would be taking place in Kyiv. After the ban on holding the march in the metro, KyivPride organizers stated that they would hold the march on the streets of the capital on June 16.
